    Meet the Teacher:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myselft.  I was born and raised in a small farming community in Indiana.  I moved to Arizona ten years ago in order to get closer to the sunshine!  I have grown to love Phoenix and Arizona as my new home.  I am the oldest of six children, and my family is spread throughout the country.

I received my bachelor's degree from Indiana University with a major in history and criminal justice.  I often joke that this explains why I chose to teach middle school math.  This is my second year teaching in the Deer Valley Unified School District.  Prior to my career in education, I spent ten years working anti-terrorist funding activity in the private sector.  I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and often wonder why I chose to wait so long to receive my teacher certification.  I am planning to begin working on my Masters in Education within the next year.

In my spare time, I enjoy traveling.  I also enjoy all types of sports, particularly the D-backs.  I have a small dog named Jibbers that brings so much joy to my life.

Finally, I am an admitted math geek.  Numbers have always intrigued me and I love sharing my passion and enthusiasm with anyone that will listen, particularly my students.  I am looking forward to my first year at Sierra Verde.  I know that we are going to have a wonderful school year.  I can't wait to meet you all and get to know you even more.  Please be aware that I have an open door policy.  I am never too busy for my students or parents!!

    My Mission!

My mission for the class is two-fold.  First of all, I believe that it is important to prepare my students for high school.  As such, we will be working hard on a daily basis to make sure that this happens.  Secondly, I believe that it is possible to learn and have fun at the same time.  We will be doing fun, math-related activities throughout the school year.  I believe that learning is enhanced by providing fun, real-life examples to guide them.
